Medical Lab Technologists, Lab Technologists and Medical Technologists are all medical careers found within the laboratory. They vary in education requirements and duties, but are all essential to a successful lab.
 
 

Medical Lab Technologist

Educational Requirements: Associate degree in related biological/chemical sciences from an accredited college or university.
 
License Requirements: Must have passed national certification exam as a laboratory scientist that is accredited by an approved agency.
 
Typical Duties: Performs routine laboratory testing under general supervision.
 

Lab Technologist

Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or in a related biological/chemical science from an accredited college or university.

License Requirements: None

Typical Duties: Performs phases of laboratory testing as assigned.
 

Medical Technologist

Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or in a related biological/chemical science from an accredited college or university.
 
License Requirements: Must have passed national certification exam as a laboratory scientist that is accredited by an approved agency.
 
Typical Duties: Identifies, processes and documents laboratory specimens for the purpose of assessing and monitoring patient status.
