Dr. Aran received both a Bachelor of Science and medical degree from the University of Iowa. He continued his specialty training in internal medicine at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He received subspecialty training in gastroenterology at the University of Chicago, followed by a fellowship in liver disease and later taught at the University of Chicago as an assistant professor in medicine. He has won "teacher of the year" awards at both the University of Iowa and the University of Chicago.
Prior to assuming his current position, Dr. Aran was a gastroenterologist at Saint Francis from 1990 through 2009. He was involved in a number of committees and leadership activities related to clinical quality improvement, including being the medical director for disease management. He served on the Saint Francis Health System Board of Directors from 1996 to 2009 and was chairman of the quality subcommittee of the board.
Dr. Aran is a member of the Tulsa County Medical Society Board of Directors. He is also a member of the American College of Physician Executives.
