Our team keeps kids upbeat in the midst of treatment.

Working with kids who have cancer requires special leadership skills to create the best possible program. With that in mind, Wendy Bourland, D.O., is the right person to direct our pediatric oncology and hematology group. On an ongoing basis, this team studies new methods and new research for ways to improve their efforts. Whether a child is being treated for cancer, sickle cell anemia or other types of blood disorders, Dr. Bourland and her staff make them feel special. Every visit is personalized with the same nurse who sees the patient on every visit, and who makes sure treats and even birthday surprises are part of the time spent in The Children's Hospital. Our Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Clinic encounters a sobering 50-60 new cancer cases each year. And while each day the team works to fight a frightening disease, they make sure to prescribe some fun for every treatment.
