On Tuesday, August 7, Hyundai Hope On Wheels® awarded The Children's Hospital Foundation at Saint Francis with a $75,000 Hyundai Scholar Grant to support the pediatric cancer research of Dr. Wendy Bourland. Her research will focus on developing a support program to meet the psychosocial and emotional needs of children and their families fighting cancer.
The check was officially presented at a Handprint Ceremony at The Children's Hospital at Saint Francis, where Tulsa-area children affected by cancer placed their colorful handprints on a white Hyundai Tucson, the official vehicle of Hope On Wheels, to commemorate their brave battles with cancer.
In 2012, Hope On Wheels donated 43 Hyundai Scholar Grants totaling more than $3.1 million to institutions across the country. Recipients of the grants are known as Hyundai Scholars. In 2012, Hope On Wheels donated a total of $13.4 million through its grant programs to pediatric cancer research, surpassing $57 million to children's hospitals nationwide since the program's inception in 1998.
