Pediatric Intensive Care

To a critically ill child, fast access to advanced medical treatment is the difference between life and death. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at The Children's Hospital at Saint Francis has made that life-and-death difference to thousands of critically ill children since 1975.

We treat a wide spectrum of serious children's injuries and illnesses such as pneumonia, trauma injuries and serious infections. We also care for children with heart or lung disease. The range of pediatric specialties represented in PICU include: pediatric surgery, cardiac surgery, trauma, cardiology, neurology, ophthalmology, gastroenterology, adolescent medicine, endocrinology, infectious diseases, plastic surgery, orthopedics and ear, nose and throat (ENT).

A team of full-time pediatric intensivists is on staff in the PICU and available at all times to consult with physicians. A highly-specialized staff of nurses, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, social workers and nutritionists are also available to care for your child.

Our unique blend of advanced technology and family-centered care means the PICU can provide for the entire family's physical and emotional needs during a child's hospital stay.
