Car Seat Safety Basics for Families
Studies show that 85 percent of infant and child seats are misused. That's why Saint Francis Hospital and the Tulsa Area Safe Kids Coalition offer a free monthly, two hour child safety seat workshop for expectant parents and their families. Remember, parents, it is important to have your car seat bought and installed correctly by the 7th month of pregnancy.
A NHTSA Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician will conduct the workshops. Topics covered include:
- Physical characteristics of infants/children
- Crash dynamics overview
- Types of car seats
- Weight and height limits
- Correct usage of seats
- Demonstration of proper installation
- Common misuse of safety seats
- When to graduate to the next seat
- A list of local upcoming Car Seat Check-Ups
Pre-registration required (class size limited)
This workshop is for adults only. No children please.
If you are in need of a car seat, and are on government assistance, you may attend this workshop to receive a car seat for $10. Proof of government assistance and $10 (cash only) must be provided at the time of the workshop. The car seat may then be picked up at a future car seat check up event of your choice. Please note that convertible car seats are used for expectant parents and infants.
