Laboratory Result Reporting

  • The Laboratory Director (Clinical Scientist) reviews and provides interpretation for all cases.
  • Laboratory results are communicated to clients and physicians by several means, including hospital information system, printed reports, facsimile reports and verbal reports.  All written reports for conventional cytogenetic analysis and a karyotype print can be provided upon request. Color prints are available upon request for FISH analysis.
  • Clients and physicians may request a phone notification or fax report by indicating so on the test requisition form.
  • Preliminary verbal or written results may be offered when indicated and requested by a physician or genetic counselor. Final results are generated at the completion of the test and may contain updated information from the preliminary result.

Test Turnaround Time

Turnaround time is defined as the usual number of hours or days between the time the specimen is received in the laboratory and the time a test result is reported. Tests often require less time, but may occasionally require more.

The laboratory is open for testing Monday - Friday 8:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and closed weekends and holidays. Testing schedules indicated for specific tests may change. Please refer to test information pages for the most up to date information.
