Our Heart Care History
In terms of distinctive "firsts," cardiology specialists from Saint Francis Hospital completed Oklahoma's first angioplasty, a procedure that uses a balloon catheter to open narrowed arteries, and performed Tulsa, first heart transplant in 1993.
We were also the first in the state to use the streptokinase, a medication used in some cases of heart attack. In addition, Saint Francis cardiologists participated in national cardiology studies of tPA, a drug that dissolves blood clots and decreases the risk of heart attacks.
