Laboratory Careers

Medical Technologist

To qualify for this position you must have a four year degree in Medical Technology and certification through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or you must have a four year degree in a related science and have categorical certification through ASCP or you must be ASCP eligible.
 

Medical Laboratory Technician

To qualify for this position you must be a Medical Laboratory Technician with certification through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or you must have a four year BS degree in a science related field for Technologist Trainee. BS, MS or BA in one of the biological sciences (chemistry, biology, microbiology, molecular biology, etc.) to include specific college course requirements. College course requirements vary by discipline of lab, requiring an evaluation of transcripts to determine eligibility.
 

Phlebotomist

General Functions: Perform venipuncture/arterial blood collections, performance of selected waived and/or moderately complex analytical processes. Certifications Preferred: Certified Phlebotomy Technician, PBT(ASCP), Experience Required: Previous experience as a phlebotomist or training in a formal phlebotomy program. Experience Preferred: Six months phlebotomy experience, computer data entry or typing.
 

Processing Clerk

General Functions: Provides services of both a technical and non-technical nature in the laboratory service areas. Works under the direction of an MLT, Technologist, or a Medical Technologist for the area. Duties include data handling and input; preparation of specimens for processing in the laboratory; performance of selected waived and/or moderately complex analytical processes; answering the telephone; performance and documentation of quality control and equipment maintenance; minor problem solving. Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Prefer college course work, especially in the sciences. Lab/Medical Assistant Training and good data entry skills would be helpful.
 

Client Service Specialist

Serves as the primary laboratory resource to clients for telephone communications and prompt problem solving. Qualifications - High School Diploma, Six months to one year of clerical experience in the SF Laboratory.
 

Laboratory Billing Specialist

Assists Laboratory Business Manager in preparing patient and client billing, financial data analysis and compliance monitoring. Qualifications - High School Diploma, Six months to one year of clerical experience.
 

Lab Admissions Clerk

Performs registration duties affiliated with admitting a laboratory outreach patient. Verifies accurate registration of outreach patients by other lab clerk. Checks insurance eligibility and medical necessity. Qualifications - High School diploma, one year work experience in a related field, i.e., physician office, insurance company or hospital.
