Yale Avenue Widening Project - Saint Francis Hospital

February 2013 Update
The City of Tulsa and Tulsa County continue the Yale widening construction. Asphalt base layers have begun to be installed. Most of the East side of Yale have the base layers applied.

Please be advised that as work crews continue to apply asphalt base layers, drivers may begin to experience sporadic lane changes over the next few weeks.  They will begin to divert lanes to the east side of Yale to apply the asphalt across Yale avenue. Please remember that as you approach Yale at all entrance and exits, those east side lanes that were previously closed to traffic may now be operational.

The City of Tulsa and Tulsa County plan to have the roadway asphalted and all lanes open in March.  Adjacent sidewalks and finishes will follow. Expect delays on Yale between 61st and 71st street over the next few weeks during this process.
Thank you for your continued patience during this project.

Project Description
Through a collaborative effort between the city of Tulsa and Tulsa County; the portion of Yale Avenue located between 61st street and 71st street will be widened to accommodate three lanes of travel in both the northern and southern direction. This stretch of Yale will also maintain the center turning lane thus expanding to seven lanes from its current state of five lanes.

Roadwork began in earnest in February 2012 and is anticipated to take approximately 6-9 months to complete. The construction crews will begin at 61st street and work their way down the west side of Yale. Road work will include retaining wall placement, storm sewer work and the addition of another lane of travel. Upon reaching 71st to the south, the construction crew will then transition to the east side of Yale and work back north to 61st street.

Construction crews will be removing the center medians in order to maintain two lanes of travel in the closed down section of roadway. Closed sections of roadway are anticipated to coincide with cross streets in order to minimize the disruption of traffic along the entire stretch of roadway.

Traffic lights along Yale are also being upgraded with a camera system to make the flow along Yale more steady and efficient for travel. Saint Francis Hospital anticipates the placement of a new traffic light at its newly constructed main entrance which was built in anticipation of the widening project. This new light and entrance will allow for visitors to the Saint Francis Hospital campus to exit to the South on Yale Avenue.

Maps have been included in this Yale widening link to assist travelers and patrons of the businesses located along Yale Avenue the opportunity to assess their route prior to travel. Please be patient with the road crews as they work to enhance a major tributary for our community.
