Each year, the Saint Francis Cancer Committee
publishes a report on the number of new cancer cases seen at our facility during a calendar year. The statistical data collected by the staff of Cancer Data Services was reviewed by the Chairman of the Cancer Committee, James Lockhart, M.D., and Cancer Liaison Physician, Charles E. Stewart, M.D., Ph.D.
The primary site table depicts the incidence (the number) of new cancer cases by disease site and gender. In 2011, 1,974 patients presented at our facility for diagnosis and/or treatment for a malignant disease process, including 52 pediatric cases. Fifty-seven percent of all new cancer patients were adult female; 43 percent adult male and three percent were pediatric patients.
The four major sites seen through Natalie Warren Bryant Cancer Center in 2011 were breast (24 percent), lung (17 percent), colon/rectum (9 percent) and prostate (5 percent). These four sites represent half of the overall caseload.
The comparison data for Oklahoma and national incidence statistics was obtained from the American Cancer Society Cancer
