Leukemia Prevention

There is no proven way to prevent most types of leukemia. And, to date there are no standardized screening tests that have been shown to improve leukemia outcomes. However, the oncology specialists at the Natalie Warren Bryant Cancer Center continually work to develop screening tests for those at risk.

Nonetheless, studies indicate some types of leukemia may be prevented by avoiding high doses of radiation, exposure to the chemical benzene, smoking and other tobacco use, or certain types of chemotherapy used to treat other types of cancer.
