Pulmonologists specialize in the treatment of diseases of the lungs and respiratory tract. Primarily, this includes asthma, pneumonia, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary embolism and cancers of the lung and respiratory system and sleep apnea. At Saint Francis, pulmonologists play a critical role in the care provided through the Pulmonary Intensive Care Unit. They are also called upon throughout the hospital to consult on diseases of the lung and respiratory tract and for patients requiring mechanical ventilation.

Pulmonologists at Saint Francis oversee the Sleep Disorders Center where patients of all ages are evaluated and treated for sleep disturbances such as insomnia, narcolepsy, sleep apnea and snoring.
