Newborn Care

Your little bundle of joy receives only the best of care at Saint Francis Hospital. It's up to you how much time your baby spends in your room. Whether your baby spends most of his or her time beside you or in the nursery, it's great to know our caring and secure 44-bed newborn nursery is just steps away.
Your baby's medical care is directed by your baby’s pediatrician. In the newborn nursery, your baby will be screened for bilirubin (which is excreted in bile and urine), receive a metabolic newborn screening, as well as a hearing screening.
The focus of the staff in the newborn nursery is family-centered care. The staff will partner with you, as the parents, to help you learn how to care for your baby. Our nursery staff and other healthcare professionals are also on hand to answer any questions you may have. The staff can offer support and advice concerning special needs of a newborn, tips on how to feed the baby, instructions on how to care for your baby's umbilical cord and other important information that will help you make the transition from hospital to home.
