Pharmacy
The Saint Francis pharmacy department provides an important service to patients within Saint Francis Hospital, Saint Francis Hospital at Broken Arrow and Laureate Psychiatric Clinic and Hospital. The pharmacy dispenses medications to patients on the orders of a physician. In addition, since some patients have multiple physicians involved in their care, the pharmacy personnel must understand and evaluate interactions between drugs that have been ordered and work with physicians to clarify any potential concerns.
A pharmacist is an expert in medicines and how they work. Pharmacists work to ensure that patients get the maximum benefit from their medicines. They advise medical and nursing staff on the selection and appropriate use of medicines. They provide information to patients on how to manage their medicines to ensure optimal treatment.
Saint Francis holds all pharmacists to a high standard of patient care and team involvement. Saint Francis pharmacists place patient needs first, by developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with nurses, physicians and other healthcare professionals to support their efforts to provide the best patient care possible. Every staff pharmacist is responsible and accountable for maintaining the high level of competence and clinical skills necessary to achieve these goals.
Saint Francis Hospital also houses an outpatient pharmacy through which patient families and visitors can obtain over-the-counter medicines at very reasonable prices.
