When you need a helicopter ambulance service, you expect an experienced team, skilled professionals
and an accomplished pilot.Tulsa Life Flight serves communities within a 150-mile radius of Tulsa.
A comprehensive service, Tulsa Life Flight provides helicopter and ground mobile intensive care transport of patients primarily to Saint Francis Hospital and St. John Medical Center. However, we have the capability to transport patients to other appropriate level facilities at patient and/or physician request. We operate two helicopters and have one mobile intensive care unit available during inclement weather or aircraft downtime. All units are staffed by a registered nurse and a nationally-registered paramedic.
Since its inception in 1979, Tulsa Life Flight has completed over 37,000 accident-free missions.
The service is hospital-based at Saint Francis Hospital in south Tulsa.
There is a Difference!
Our flight crews are highly trained. We continue to refine our skills by working in the Saint Francis Hospital Trauma Emergency Center when not on a mission. Continuing education services are held monthly for Tulsa Life Flight crews. Our nurses and paramedics have additional specialty certifications that are invaluable to our patients.
We routinely perform lifesaving procedures in the field. Tulsa Life Flight is the ONLY helicopter ambulance program in a three-state region that carries blood to all trauma scenes and some medical transports. Advanced pharmacology is also available to obtain and maintain patient airways, tissue perfusion and pain control.
Tulsa Life Flight’s registered nurses are also nationally- registered paramedics. All have several years of critical care experience in emergency nursing, intensive care, pediatrics or coronary care.
Tulsa Life Flight’s nationally-registered paramedics all have several years of experience in high volume EMS services. Many have also had specialty training in pre-hospital care and advanced trauma care.
Communication specialists communicate and coordinate our missions. Located in the Tulsa Life
Flight Communications Center, they receive emergency calls, dispatch units and facilitate safe, appropriate
transfers of patients.
Keeping It Safe
The safety of our patients and crew is of the utmost importance at Tulsa Life Flight. Our helicopters, pilots and mechanics are contracted through The Air Methods Corp., which provides continuous mandatory training for its employees. Air Methods extends its expertise to the entire Tulsa Life Flight crew by providing nationally recognized speakers on safety issues and crew resource management issues.
Daily inspections and routine maintenance of the helicopters and mobile intensive care units contribute
to Tulsa Life Flight’s continued success and safety record.
Medical Control
Tulsa Life Flight has the luxury of having a board-certified emergency physician as our Medical Director and has 100 percent continuing quality improvement and monthly continuing education. Tulsa Life Flight medical crews stay on the cutting edge of technology and medical treatment for your patients.
BK-117
The BK-117 is a twin engine helicopter capable of transporting two critically ill or injured patients
at the same time. The helicopter cruises at a speed of 120 knots and has an excellent safety record.
Timely Transfer
Weather permitting, we can have our lifesaving teams and equipment airborne within approximately seven minutes.
Saint Francis Hospital and St. John Medical Center each have a 24-hour Transfer Center. The 24-hour Transfer Centers allow referring physicians to make one call for patient assistance.
