Where do you go if you or a loved one is faced with a situation that doesn’t warrant a frantic rush to the emergency room, but will require medical help ASAP? The answer is an Urgent Care Center.
Urgent care centers provide care when your doctor isn't available, such as at night or on weekends. Do not use urgent care centers for follow-up care or for issues that can wait for your doctor. For serious threats to your health, you need to go to the ER.
An urgent medical condition is one that is not life-threatening, but will require prompt attention. Urgent care centers treat many problems that can be seen in a primary care physician's office, but offer some services that are generally not available in primary care physician offices, such as X-ray facilities.
Urgent care centers help diagnose and treat many non-life-threatening conditions including:
- Eye infections
- Bites
- Earaches
- Fever or flu symptoms
- Sinus infections
- General wound care
|
- Minor burns and abrasions
- Rashes
- Cold, cough or sore throat
- Sprains and minor fractures
- Bronchitis
- Skin conditions
- Mild asthma

Urgent care centers specialize in caring for patients after hours when most doctors’ offices are closed -- on weekends and holidays. When your primary care physician isn't available, an urgent care center is the convenient way to see a doctor without an appointment – seven days a week. Urgent care physicians do not serve as ongoing primary care physicians. Rather, urgent care physicians focus on the illness or injury needing attention and return your ongoing care to your primary care physician.
If your doctor’s office is closed or is otherwise unavailable, please follow these steps:
- If there is a potentially life-threatening emergency, call 911.
- For problems that are less severe, but worrisome enough that they should not wait until the next business day or available appointment, please visit one of the following urgent care centers housed within Saint Francis Health System facilities:
