Warren Clinic physicians may coordinate with hospitalists to provide 24/7 care for obstetric patients. The OB Hospitalist may care for you during your labor, if there is an emergency and your physician is not immediately available. If you are hospitalized during your pregnancy for a complication, you may be cared for by one or more of the OB hospitalists.
Hospitalists are physicians who specialize in caring for patients in the hospital, and who are able to see you more than once a day, if needed. A hospitalist knows about you because he/she talks to your physician on a regular basis.
At the time of your admission to the hospital, your physician informs the hospitalist of your condition. Your medical records are also sent to the hospitalist to provide as much information as possible. The process is similar to when your physician refers you to a specialist for additional tests or treatment. At discharge, the hospitalist will communicate with your physician to discuss further treatment needs, help arrange follow-up appointments and prescribe the necessary medications. Your follow-up care will then be managed by your OB/GYN or primary care physician.
