Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, lifts the eyelids and removes excess skin and fat tissue from the eye area. It improves the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids or both and gives a revitalized appearance to the surrounding area of the eyes. Common reasons for choosing blepharoplasty include vision impairment due to excess upper eyelid skin, dark circles or puffiness around the eyes, bags under the eyes and drooping upper lids. Men and women can both benefit from this procedure.
There are many topics to discuss when considering blepharoplasty and being completely candid with the surgeon will help to insure the best outcome is achieved. A client's lifestyle, health and wishes are all taken into consideration. Below are just a few items that are discussed during the consultation with Warren Clinic Plastic Surgery.
- Why is blepharoplasty being considered?
- What are the expectations and desired outcome of the surgery?
- Discuss the patient's medical conditions and previous surgeries, drug allergies and medical treatments, including current medications, vitamins and herbal supplements as well as alcohol and tobacco use.
Our surgeons and staff will use this information to evaluate the patient's general health status and any pre-existing health conditions. They will discuss general risk factors as well as any individual risk factors a patient may have. They will also talk to the patient about the recommended course of treatment and any potential complications. If it is decided that blepharoplasty is right for the patient, then photographs will be taken for the patient's medical record.
