Adolescent Program

Laureate offers individualized treatment for adolescent females, ages 12-17 with eating disorders. We understand that the medical, psychological and spiritual needs of adolescents are different from those of adult eating disorder clients. For this reason, we maintain two separate programs, with separate staffs, to meet the needs of our younger clientele.

Acute Care

Our acute level of care serves young women with eating disorders who need close supervision for psychiatric and/or medical reasons.

Acute Care Highlights

  • Sessions with Scott Moseman, M.D., board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist
  • 24-hour nursing care provided on a secure eating disorders-specific unit
  • Daily medical monitoring with testing and labs as needed
  • Medical and psychological stabilization
  • Therapist-led groups in addition to individual and family therapy
  • As directed nutritional assessment and therapy
  • Private and spacious bedrooms with private bathrooms

Medical Assessment

During this phase of care, emphasis is placed on safely establishing physical and psychological well-being. Physicians personally assess each patient daily and, in concert with 24/7 nursing services, provide necessary care to ensure medical stability and nutritional rehabilitation.

Although small, our program has the clinical expertise to accept medically complex young women. Our board-certified physicians, advanced practice nurses and nursing staff oversee care for medically complex patients so they may participate in therapeutic programming while stabilizing their health.

Therapeutic Programming

In addition to medical interventions, patients participate in all aspects of the therapeutic program with young women from every level of care. Therapeutic programming includes individual psychotherapy, family therapy, group therapy, nutrition therapy and psychoeducational groups.

Residential Care

Once a patient is psychologically, nutritionally and medically stable, she transitions to the residential level of care. Patients may remain in the acute-care unit or move to Canyon Creek, a supervised dorm-like setting on the Laureate campus.

Residential Program Highlights

  • Sessions with Scott Moseman, M.D., board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist
  • Supervised therapeutic meal and social outings
  • Off-campus therapeutic passes with parents
  • Therapist-led groups in addition to individual and family therapy
  • Individualized nutritional assessment and therapy

"Real World" Treatment

During residential treatment, each patient continues to participate in the full treatment program as well as individual, group and family therapy throughout the day. In addition, she will participate in supervised off-campus meal outings and social outings, both of which encourage development of self-management in "real world" settings.

Partial Hospital Program

Our partial hospital level of care is for young women who are medically stabilized and have developed skills to aid their recovery journey. At this level of care, parents or caregivers are educated about medication planning, the exchange nutrition system and other tools to facilitate a smooth transition from our program.

Partial Hospital Program Highlights

  • On-campus / off-campus living options
  • Sessions with Scott Moseman, M.D., board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist
  • Therapist-led groups in addition to individual and family therapy
  • Nutritional assessment and therapy on an as-needed basis, including nutritional education for families to assist their loved one’s transition home

Day-to-Day Responsibility

Participation in the full treatment program and weekly physician meetings continue, but parents take more responsibility for their loved ones. Adolescents usually stay with a parent in the Tulsa community (there are cost-effective resources available) but may continue living on campus.
