Nurse Navigator

An oncology nurse navigator, or patient navigator, is a registered nurse who has oncology-specific clinical training and serves as a resource to help guide cancer patients through a cancer diagnosis. Our navigators work closely with patients, families and healthcare providers to improve the patient experience through support, information and guidance. 

What Does an Oncology Nurse Navigator Do? 

Oncology patient navigators serve many roles including: 

• Point of contact for the patient at the time they are diagnosed and throughout their experience
• Source of information and support for the patient and their family and may also coordinate interaction with healthcare staff and providers
• Provide education for the patient and family with information specific to their diagnosis
• Coordinates referrals for a variety of resources from the hospital and the community to help cover any needs of the patient

The oncology nurse navigators specialize in different cancer types and meet with patients at the Saint Francis Cancer Center as well as Saint Francis Hospital.
