Five Reasons a Primary Care Doctor is Worth It
Dr. Rebekah Kriegsman lists five reasons to keep regular checkups with a primary care physician for yourself and your loved ones.

Finding quality health care can feel overwhelming—especially for busy adults and families juggling work, schedules, and rising costs.
For many people, going to the doctor becomes an “only if something’s really wrong” situation. We react to problems instead of getting ahead of them.
As a primary care doctor, I want you to know this: preventive care is worth your time and your investment—long before something serious shows up. And getting that care may be easier (and more affordable) than you think.
At Saint Francis, we offer a helpful tool to match you with a primary care doctor who fits your needs. We accept Medicare and Medicaid (SoonerCare), and our Financial Counselors can help you enroll if you qualify. You can even request a cost estimate ahead of time through MyChart—no account required.
If you or someone you love tends to put off seeing a doctor unless it’s urgent, here are five good reasons to make a primary care checkup a priority.
1. We help you stay healthy
You don’t have to be sick to see a doctor—promise. One of my favorite parts of this job is helping people stay healthy by catching potential issues early. Things like high blood pressure or diabetes are much easier to manage when we find them sooner rather than later. A little prevention now can help you avoid much bigger (and more expensive) problems down the road.
2. We take care of everyday illnesses
Colds, stomach aches, headaches, sore backs, and minor injuries are all part of real life. A primary care doctor is here for those everyday health bumps. We listen, help you understand what’s going on, and work with you to feel better as quickly as possible—whether that means lifestyle changes, over-the-counter remedies, prescriptions, a specialist referral, or a mix of it all.
3. We support long-term health conditions
Living with a chronic condition like asthma, diabetes, heart disease, or another long-term concern means your care shouldn’t be one-size-fits-all. I help patients track changes over time, fine-tune medications and supplements, and spot patterns that may be affecting symptoms. Together, we can identify triggers to avoid and create a plan that actually works for your life.
4. We help you make sense of your care
Let’s be honest—health care can be confusing. Test results, medications, and next steps don’t always come with clear instructions. My job is to explain things in plain language so you feel confident, informed, and comfortable asking questions. You should never feel lost in your care. And if I don’t know an answer, I’ll make sure we find it together using a trusted, reliable source.
5. We care for the whole person
Your health isn’t just about your body. Stress, work, family responsibilities, and financial worries all affect both your physical and mental well-being. As a primary care doctor, I help connect the dots between physical symptoms and emotional health, and I can help you access mental health support that fits your needs. While the internet can be helpful, nothing replaces a real relationship with a doctor who knows you, listens to you, and advocates for your care.
