Now Available at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa
Saint Francis Hospital is proud to offer a revolutionary, noninvasive tumor treatment using the Edison robotic histotripsy system — the first and only of its kind available in Oklahoma and within a 350-mile radius.
What Is Histotripsy?
Histotripsy is a groundbreaking, noninvasive cancer treatment that uses focused ultrasound waves to destroy tumors without surgery, heat, or radiation. The procedure works by delivering high-amplitude, short-pulse sound waves that generate “bubble clouds” within the targeted tissue. These microbubbles rapidly form and collapse, creating mechanical forces powerful enough to break apart tumor cells at the cellular and sub-cellular level.
Performed using a robotic platform, histotripsy ensures precise targeting of the tumor while minimizing impact to surrounding healthy tissue. Patients typically undergo the treatment under general anesthesia and return home the same day. This innovative approach offers a safe and effective alternative for individuals with inoperable tumors or those who are not candidates for traditional surgery, while avoiding the risks associated with heat damage, incisions, and ionizing radiation.
Who Can Benefit?
This cutting-edge technology offers new hope for patients who:
- Have inoperable or hard-to-reach tumors
- Cannot undergo surgery due to other health conditions or anesthesia risks
- Are seeking a minimally invasive alternative to traditional cancer treatments
